A guy is selling this one as a parts car. It's a 1980 GL, but with a 1.6 engine. Too bad, since other than rear wheel wells and perhaps the floor, the bodywork seems salvageable, at least judging by the pictures. Also, it's in Bosnia and registration is expired, so I can't get it here. I don't know what is the asking price, and I'll try to go and see it over the weekend.

I went to see the Coupe today... ouch. The above photo is apparently several years old, and the state of the car now is horrible. The bodywork is like potato chips, there is a hole in the roof, it's rusted away so much. I haven't even asked about the price, the guy said it would be symbolic, but buying it is by far the easiest step. My estimation (if it's even possible to save it) is at least 2-3 years and 6000€ in labor.
A friend snapped some pictures, I'll post them as soon as he forwards them to me.

I tracked down the car from Bosnia, the guy sent it to the local scrapyard (lots of Typ 81s there!). I went yesterday and bought some parts, the most important thing being GL front bumper. To my surprise, the car also had a 9/10 dashboard!
And, since this is the Balkans, nothing can be done without the use of Golf II diesel
Luckily, customs officers gave me no trouble at all while crossing the border.
