Stimmt Andreas
Nix dran!

Re: 47 kmi 1988 Audi 5000 CS quattro Wagon
The “unintended acceleration” Audi experienced in the late ’70s and early ’80s was true. I worked at a dealership then in Fairfield county and Audi had us scrambling for cures. The early 5000 had Vacuum locks, Vacuum heater doors, Vacuum brake booster and Vacuum cruise control. There was a quite large Vacuum reservoir as well. There had always been a high, surging idle particularly if the A/C was on and the engine was not warm. We found the cars with the issue had a Vacuum leak that would deplete the Vacuum reservoir. Upon start up, that small engine was unable to quickly replenish the vacuum. People would start their Automatic cars, place it immediately in gear and have no power brakes. If you were a small person it would take a lot to apply enough brake. The car would surge ahead, or rearward and was difficult to stop
Audi had us changing to dual diaphragm boosters but it was not the problem. It was a basic design issue with all the Vacuum consumers and the large reservoir.
I remember watching the 60 minutes piece, all of us at the dealership could not believe how off base they were. Quietly, Audi changed to Hydraulic brake booster, electric locks, electric heater doors, electric cruise control…..I LOVE this car. I had one in the early 90s and have coveted them a long time
