It's a part of the LPG fuel system.

Isolation:

It's 20mm thick and I used a little less than 5 square meters. The effect is noticable right away, the car is a lot quieter.

Meanwhile, an oldtimer club that I'm a member of hosted a meet, so I pulled some strings to get an appropriate start number

Aftermath of the attempted theft:

I managed to find the necessary parts the other day:

And as a bonus, in better condition than mine, also, I've been missing one rear headrest:

I've been trying to find a right taillight in good condition for over a year now without success, while I came across between 10 and 15 for pre-facelift version.

So imagine how thrilled I was when a friend called me this morning: "I'm at a flee market and I think I found a right taillight for your Audi, it's not all flat, but curved at the edge, just like you explained."
Of course, I asked him to buy it for me.

What are the odds that this would be the epilogue

I know, that's the whole point of my post - what are the odds of finding something as rare as that :D

I've only seen one Avant in Serbia so far, it's in my home town and in a relatively bad shape. It has a five cylinder carburetted engine.

You´re happy you found your Passport or the electric antenna  ?
Congratulations, but shame for the CD 5E, looks like it hadn´t that amount of rust?

It's not a passport, it's an Index - I don't know if it's called that in Deutschland as well, it's where your exames and grades are recorded when you are in college.

Speaking of passports, I hope I'll manage to find "time" to visit Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim this summer, in Audi Typ 43, of course.

The CD 5E really was in ok shape, I was surprised it was parted out as well. The reason was - the cold start sensor malfuncioned and the mechanic (obviously a bad one) misdiagnosed. Engine was then rebuilt, but of course, the problem persisted, and that combined with automatic transmission which started to act funny around that time caused the car to be discarded. I'm not finished with it yet, however, I want to take as much good parts as I can before it's recycled.

Anyone had problems with the piece of dashboard that goes over the instruments? Mine spent some time deatached from the rest of the dash, and I can't fit it back anymore. I found one to replace it temporarily, but it's green and is really sticking out, so I would like to put mine back as soon as possible. Should I try to heat it or...?
